They were nice to me, but they parroted the talking point about how the economy is the best in history. I retorted with "Then why is GM closing 3 plants? Why is Harley Davidson moving to Thailand?". My cousin responded with "Our meals are good, but if yours is bad, does that mean the restaurant is bad?"
He also said he hopes Democrats impreach Trump because that will assure him re-election.

(13,903 posts)It isn't that his meal is good. It is that Trump has told it was good and he bought it.

(10,270 posts)It also means that they think Donald Trump is the same as Bill Clinton.
Not even a fucking little bit, and that they don't see that is gonna be THEIR loss, not OURS.

(3,784 posts)The restaurant could serve them up a nice steamy shit on a plate, and they'd gobble it up raving about how it's the tastiest meal ever served in the history of food service.

(8,922 posts)Trump has nothing to do with the economy.
Trumpkins I have met rarely understand much economics, so their eyes glass over right away, often followed by some mumbling about Obama or socialism. So I ask why they even think the economy is good. If they have been watching Fox recently, they might say something about 3.2% GDP. If we get that far I ask why they think Trump is responsible for the GDP, which of his policies are driving it? I kid not - I once had a guy bust into the middle of the conversation and say that "the GDP was the top 50 companies and they were doing well because of Trump".

(561 posts)This is what I like to remind republicans of: When Obama took office he inherited a Recession, unemployment at almost 8%, Banks too big to fail, a Housing crisis, people with pre-existing conditions unable to buy health insurance a failing stock market, and bin laden free as a bird, among so many other problems. When he left office so many things had stabilized. Unemployment was down nearer to 4.5, we had job creation, the Affordable Care Act was enacted, the Housing Market was on the upswing, bin laden slept with the fishes and the Stock Market was just under 20,000. He left this country better off then when he found it.
I would have loved to see Trump inherit GW Bush's mess and do as well, for all the bragging he does, he was given a gift from Obama.
Republicans use to be horrified by the deficit, remember those hats with the tea bags hanging off them? Where did they go? Now, after promising to lower the deficit, Trump has added an extra 2 trillion in short measure, our trade deficit has exploded , we are paying farmers 12 billion in "aid" because of his trade wars.
He costs us millions every weekend while he goes golfing, forget Mexico paying for "the Wall" Forget the "Great Health care" he promised, you can only get that if you promise to elect him again in 2020. What sucker is buying that? His tax cut was an epic fail, the 1% may have seen their incomes raised, but for the rest of us? No.
I don't know, maybe your cousin and his friends are rich, or maybe they are just fooling themselves. Remind them to take a walk down Memory Lane when Bush was president, and wrecking everything in sight. Someone had to clean that mess up. Obama did and he left Trump a gift that keeps giving.
