Wed May 1, 2019, 07:38 AM

Why Barr did what he did:

1) He was instructed to do it;

2) He was confident that he would have "cover" for his lies;

3) He knows that there are no standards of behavior anymore and that the American people are so beaten down that there will be no consequences.

He betrayed a close friend and violated the oath he took when he became a lawyer and a public servant. He spit on the legacies of Elliot Richardson and Archibald Cox.

He didn't do all of this in the heat of the moment. He planned for it. He telegraphed it in his 19 page "job application."

He did all of this for Donald Trump and it will haunt him for the rest of his life and be the headline on his obituary notice.

Sad, very, very, very sad.

3. He was instructed to do it,

Let's not forget that Barr applied for the job. I agree he was instructed to do it, by the Federalist Society. Barr went in with the game plan to bring down the Mueller investigation.

He didn't do it for Trump per se, he did it for the Federalist Society, for the greedy bastards who control our country.

8. Yep. And his only regret will be

if he doesn't get away with it. Hubby thinks he was paid off by russian oligarchs. Others think he was blackmailed. But I think his FedSoc ideals are what drives him to violate his professional and legal oaths to serve a traitor in the WH. His name will be garbage after a lifetime of trying to build a professional legacy.

This. His extreme ideology *trumped* his integrity. Now, that doesn't mean someone doesn't have the blackmailable goods on him - or kompromat, as the case may be - as well. Frankly, I believe that he's part of the right wing cabal that includes McConnell.

5. Its very obvious now

He's compromised, conspired to : obstruct, lie, and to cover up for trump and for putin. His criminal acts should get him disbarred, and fully prosecuted for all he's done and involved in, and he should be scared because the American people will not allow this to go on, and demand they have consequences after they all are fully exposed, which they will be. Barr is in very , very deep trouble now.

An immediate release of even the redacted Mueller report would have been devastating for Trump.

So he gave Trump a few weeks to take a fake victory lap and build up a “No collusion! No obstruction!” narrative to rally the base before the beans got spilled.

42. No, the real reason that he did it was because

he, like all those, who allow themselves to gravitate into Trump's orbit are morally bankrupt and downright degenerate. Honor and truth are not their highest values. We already know the apologist role that Barr played in defending selling arms to Iran under Reagan, and defending water-boarding under GWBush. We already know that he angled for the AG job under Trump. What else do we need to know. Anyone, who would work for Trump is either an idiotic fool or a degenerate criminal.

Yes it is very sad.

No. He VOLUNTEERED to do it. His 19-page job application, together with his attachments re the Iran-Contra business, were his entrée into the tRump Administration.

He got away with it before, and he is fully certain he won't face any consequences now. This business of people saying "he's lost his integrity" have got everything upside down. Barr had no integrity.

They want to enact their hellish agenda hurting the majority of the country. That’s hard to do in a democracy. Unless you have a malignant character who seems to be immune from accountability and has mesmerized a significant portion of the population. Barr was probably aware that here was a perfect opportunity and got excited enough to leave retirement and help with the spin to keep out the light of day. It’s a gamble and we’re all waiting to see if he wins his bet.

50. To be fair,

Barr has been a creep his entire life. He sought the job of AG because he is an opportunist, who saw the chance to advance his personal belief in an all-powerful presidency. After his time in the CIA, he showed his lack of decency as Bush the Elder's AG. And, while I'm not sure if you were saying Barr and Mr. Mueller were "close friends," that is not accurate.

None of this will haunt him. He does not have a conscience in the traditional sense. He will sleep well.

We wish they did since we do. We feel the hurt, the anger the injustices but those who do not have feelings do not because they can not nor do they want to. He will sleep very well tonight, just like the rest of them. This is how they are, it is their true self, their nature. It would make us feel better if they felt guilt or remorse for their deeds at some time in their lives but they do not.
