(18,486 posts)It seems we are finding out just how impotent the House is against a corrupt Executive Branch and party.

I'd prefer if Mueller doesn't step up to the plate and say something that changes a lot of GOPer minds -- which is unlikely -- then, I think it's time to move on if all we are going to do is fail at cornering these rats.
Let's turn the focus to the elections. Continue investigations, but low key, just in case a true "bombshell" turns up. No more hearings like today that only make Democrats feel good, but don't move the meter in our direction, and may even hurt us by appearing impotent.

(18,486 posts)It was definitely not a waste of time for the American public to see Barr's corruption.

The most effective hearings in this case won't be full of Perry Mason moments. They're about building a case and the Dems did that very effectively today.

We simply cannot rely on elections now.
We must vote but...

(18,619 posts)and I've seen nothing but empty words with no action whatsoever in response.
By the time we get to the 2020 election Trump could have it all sewn up because he's pretty much free to rig it any way he can and no one will do anything about it.
People talk about how tough and shrewd Pelosi is but I've seen none of it. She might be formidable against normal politicians but she seems frozen with indecision when confronted with Trump.
Nope.
We have no one who has the strength and moxie to stand up to him and our country is beginning to topple as a result.

(4,607 posts)Pelosi et al have been pretty open about the fact their plan is to campaign against Trump with two years of political theater in an endless parade of oversight hearings.
It's telling that disaffected Republicans like Rick Wilson and Nicole Wallace are demanding more aggressive and urgent action than our own leadership. It took a quarter of a year for us just to request Trump's tax returns for Chrissake.
Whatever else you can say about Republicans, they are willing to fight with every weapon and tactic available to them and will only stop when they are utterly crushed by their opposition. Dem leadership, on the otherhand, are already back in the timid score-political-points-but-don't-rock-the-boat mindset that haunted us during the Dubya years.
