Wisconsin Supreme Court Hands Victory To Republicans In Restoring Walker Appointees
The ruling stems from an ongoing battle over legislation that GOP lawmakers and Republican Gov. Scott Walker passed during a lame-duck session.
By Antonia Blumberg
Wisconsins Supreme Court has handed another win to Republicans in the ongoing dispute over legislation and appointments passed during last years lame-duck session.
The states high court voted 4-3 on Tuesday to restore all 82 appointees then-Gov. Scott Walker (R) made before Democratic Gov. Tony Evers was sworn in on Jan. 7, The Associated Press reported.
The 82 appointees shall immediately be allowed to perform the duties of their respective positions in the same manner as they were performing those duties, the court said, according to AP.
The ruling will allow 15 of Walkers appointees who Evers did not reappoint to return to their posts. This includes positions on the Public Service Commission and the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents.
Melissa Baldauff, the governors communications director, said in a statement to HuffPost: We are confident that the court will ultimately rule against the Legislatures unconstitutional attempt to override the will of the people.

(52,188 posts)4. notice how republicans can appoint a ton of people after they lost an election,
on the grounds that, hey, they're in office right up until their last day.
but meanwhile, they insisted obama had no basis to appoint anyone during his last year in office.
just another data point showing republicans lie about their reasons constantly. any excuse they can find to rationalize doing whatever they want, that's the argument they use in the moment, and they'll shoot it down the minute a democrat picks it up to use for themselves.
