I feel for the immigrants, they are a mirror to me.

Buses are coming into Tucson. And I see myself.
Many of the older members remember my struggles not to long ago. Tucson was a foreign place to this small town refuse. Nothing but a suitcase, pack and a will to keep going.
I was lucky, I knew English and had DU as my Cheer Squad. Many of these folks don't have that. But we have the same drive to find a place to feel safe, that has justice, to truly live. I had nothing, they have nothing, we're all chasing the same dream.
Big difference between us is many are coming with families. Their children taken away, put in cages. I slept in some bad places, but never a cage.
My heart breaks so much. They are running from Hades and ended up in Purgatory.
It hurts more when I think of what is written on the Statue of Liberty, “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
