Democrats cannot defeat this threat alone.

Republicans must wake up and take a stand. Otherwise, the democracy we have known for our entire lives will be changed forever. What will replace it?

Will it be a fascist government, completely controlled by corporate interests? Or will it be a dictatorship with most of the rewards going to the dictator at the top? Or will it be something more Third World and militaristic?

I will admit, that may be a nihilistic view.

But, our system was not meant to operate with only half the population, or less, involved in defending and protecting our values and institutions. Perhaps this is the natural evolution of democracies?

One thing is for certain, it is going to be a very rough road if Republicans remain allied with those presently in power. Their intent is to destroy our democracy. They are a destructive force in our country.

Perhaps it is time for Democrats to begin looking at other options? Also, I will confess, I have no idea what those might be?

edit:
I will say that if we can make it thru the next election, we still have a chance to save a remnant of our former government.

And there is really only one thing you need to remember. 77,744. That's how many votes a crap candidate, running a crap campaign, lost the last election by. ALL of the current candidates have much higher approval ratings than Clinton. And Trump has a worse approval, and much higher disapproval, than last time. We can't phone this one in, and we still have to do the heavy lifting, but in the end we'll be fine. Trump will be a one-term president. I feel it in my bones.

If we win, I think we can fight back effectively against the forces of darkness, the worldwide fascists like drumpf, PUtin, MBS, China, etc. to save our country's democracy. If Russia,MBS,China & drumpf manage to steal the next election, america as a concept is dead for the foreseeable future and maybe forever - the dark forces of unbridled oligarchy and the fascist governments that support these, which was the underlying cause of WW2 will have won and they will most likely win world wide or at least enough that they control mostly everything.

A peaceful split, not based on borders but based on ideas. Those who prefer trump's America can do that. The rest of us can rebuild. 2 nations in 1 country. Hopefully living peacefully, side by side.

Like climate change, we're past the point of no return. To save our country we need a Dem president, 60 Dem senators, and a Dem Supreme Court. We can't vote for the SC, and getting 60 Senators is prohibitive.

...and do away with the filibuster rule, if they win a simple majority in the Senate, if they win the White House? Do it with a sunset provision, because the crisis necessitates immediate action.

The Dems chose not to change the filibuster last time they had the majority out of some idealism.
