Only the people can save their democracy. Only the people can save themselves. Right now the American people remind me of the German people of the 1930s. They don't see the true danger of Trump and what he is doing. It is up to the Democrats in Congress to educate the American people. They have to convince the people Trump should be removed. They have to do something to get the peoples attention.
Impeachment hearings. Charge people with contempt, with perjury. Fight harder.
Right now, we are on a path where everything Trump has done will be legalized. An election will not fix that.

Even when his overall approval rating started to tank badly after the Senate Watergate hearings began, it wasn't until only about a week before he resigned - when the House Judiciary Committee referred articles of impeachment to the full House - that more than 50% wanted him to be impeached.
Patience. The fat lady is just warming up.

(25,471 posts)As noted, the vast majority of that graph is pre-impeachment. It wasn't the recommendation of impeachment hearings that caused the public's opinion of Nixon to decline and support of impeachment to increase. It was everything leading up to that, including all of the hearings and investigations.
It's really two different situations, but if you want to conflate them, then are you recommending that we not move forward with impeachment until the public sentiment warrants it? Because that's what happened with Nixon.

(2,860 posts)Trump didn't even win the popular vote. We should move forward with impeachment and contempt and everything else. Right now this is more important than just about anything else. We won't have anything else if things keep heading in the current direction.

No one really knows what the public's reaction to an impeachment and acquittal would be at this point, although many think they do.
