Personally, I don't have any interest in either, but that doesn't mean that they're not popular and timely and, therefore, ripe for parody.

It's entertainment news. They're an entertainment show. It's not, nor has it ever been, all about just news or politics. Current cultural events have always been targets, as well.

A host like SANDLER is not going to be a political type.

A host who is known for Self only is going to put on a Self show.

A host who is generically secure and intelligent is not Self oriented and will go to universal/political/dangerous places.

This SANDLER dude can impress Lorne because of the 45 billion he's made in movies. I will say, however, that his song to Chris FARLEY was touching, despite my not caring for FARLEY or SANDLER.
