folks, our ultimate goal MUST be complete remove of all electronic devices associated with our votes and counting.

when all is said and done, in case of a dispute, you have to recount all the paper ballots BY HAND anyway! why not start out with the final arbiter?

it's not that hard, and has been done since forever before electricity and computers this way, and invites civic participation. all that's required are reps from each candidate for each slot present to count the ballots. each rep tallies up, passes on to the next rep who does the same, repeated until the tallies agree. each tally is then posted for the world to see, online and on the courthouse walls.

then and only then is a final tally sent to a central electronic system that adds them altogether. from that point, any and all can add them up. no disputes.

HANDS ON VOTING!!

except I believe the final vote was called in, since there was no "electronic" way of communicating.

We can do it that way again. INCLUDING the phone call, with multiple witnesses from both sides to the call.

Then we must be patient. We must set aside our thirst for instant gratification, for absolute accuracy. All results must be posted so they can be checked by anyone and everyone.

My brother said--back in 2002!!--"give me a cell phone and a laptop, and I'll make any of those machines give any result you want."

They have vulnerabilities that make them susceptible to hacking even when not (obviously, anyway) connected to the internet. I don't know how that works, but I don't do top secret stuff for DARPA, either. He does.

Get rid of electronic vote tracking PERIOD. Don't even give them the IDEA that there's something to hack. Republicans breaking into ballot storages in the middle of the night are a lot easier to catch than Putin's people on Savushkina Street 8000 miles away.

Why didn't you give him a cell phone and laptop and see what he could do? That sounds like stuff I hear in bars.

I'm never in the country on election day.

He doesn't drink or go to bars, and would lose more than his job if he were caught doing anything of the sort.
There must be a different kind of crowd in bars.

State voter databases need to be secured from intrusion...this data is mostly what the Russians were interested in. IMO this kind of change isn't likely to happen anytime soon, particularly with obstruction from the States.

Isolating voting machines and the systems that tabulate the votes is a must. In addition, little attention has been paid to the companies that have been contracted to supply the hardware and to administer it. I believe there is statistical evidence that Republican operatives have been involved in manipulating vote tallies on numerous occasions and I believe that it has been coordinated from high levels within the Party. I saw Rove meltdown over Ohio on live television.
