The Presidential Medal of Freedom - WTH?

"The Presidential Medal of Freedom is an award bestowed by the President of the United States. The Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal are the highest civilian awards of the United States. It recognizes those people who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors".[2] The award is not limited to U.S. citizens and, while it is a civilian award, it can also be awarded to military personnel and worn on the uniform."

Exactly what about being an athlete qualifies someone for this honor? Granted, championship athletes work hard at what they do, but what they do, IMO, is essentially pursue a leisure activity for a living. Not really something that changes the world for good in a lasting way, altho it may be fun to watch.

I know Woods is not the only athlete to receive this award. I think the whole idea of giving it to sports figures is bogus.

Tiger Woods thinks rump is a great guy and has for some time now so that tells me all I need to know about that prick.

He's minimizing our sacred traditions. Nothing will matter by the time he's done.

Maybe it's the fact that I don't give a rat's ass about sports, but I don't understand why any sports figure would be entitled to the same award given to someone like John Glenn or Stephen Hawking or Desmond Tutu or Shirley Chisholm or Rosa Parks. OK, maybe Jackie Robinson.

It's just Trump trying to leech on Woods' Masters win. Trump's giving a guy the highest civilian award in the country for winning a golf tournament.

Three days a week just isn’t enough.

When he leaves office, he’ll never have freedom again.
