I was told by an Occupational Therapist friend of mine not to use my thumbs when texting, and this was before getting my thumb joints replaced. When I got my right index finger knuckle replaced, I started using my middle finger (and an app on my phone and tablet that lets me type by dragging my finger across the keyboard).

(4,305 posts)your hands sounds like torture. No more complaining from me about arthritis.

(5,293 posts)The right index finger knuckle replacement recovered nicely. The left one (ten weeks ago) is going to need a second surgery to fix a locking problem.
Fortunately for me, despite this latest complication (luck of the draw), my hand surgeon is brilliant, talented, and a nice guy. I tease him that if it weren't for him, I wouldn't need this surgery; I would have lost the whole damned hand eight years ago.

(772 posts)I only use two fingers to type on a full size keyboard on my lapttop.
Love Ted Lieu's response though.

(48,999 posts)If you use index finger, then the middle finger is more prone to accidentally hit than the other way around.
