PoliticoThey were co-founders of Students for Trump, a grassroots group that had tapped the social media power of Donald Trumps populist movement and of photos of bikini-clad co-eds in MAGA hats to become the real estate moguls standard-bearer on college campuses around the country.
I see Donald Trump as reviving the Republican Party, one of them, John Lambert, declared with a confidence uncommon for a college junior.
Last month, Lambert, now 23, showed up in the news again. This time, he had been indicted for alleged wire fraud. According to the federal government, at the same time he was building a nationwide political network and serving as one of the most visible young faces of Trumps populist movement, Lambert was also posing online as a high-powered New York lawyer, eventually making off with tens of thousands of dollars in fees he stole from dupes seeking legal services.

(50,271 posts)I can't think of a better bunch of people to cull for a successful scam. Not only were they sending money to this guy, they're donating to Don's campaign and he's using it for legal fees. A fool and his money . . .

(15,382 posts)Fleecing your fellow conservatives. The left (and the right) may have some outiler whackadoodles trying to sell new age stuff, but they're at least believers in the stuff, but a conservative at point A on the right side of the political spectrum will look further right at people at point B and see their fears - some of which he may or may not share, at least not as much as the Point Bs, but he at least understands their mindset so he comes up with a product/service that either doesn't work or won't be needed and using scare-tactics that he understands all too well (because he's probably getting fleeced by some other conservative no quite as far right as he is), he'll sell them his crap and move on.
It's like Jim Bakker. Now that he's put the whole Jessica Hahn thing behind him, he's hawking those buckets of survival meals for when the anti-Christ comes or whatever. He doesn't believe that shit, but throw some salt and other ingredients into a bucket and sell it for a ridiculous amount, and you're back on your way to having air-conditioned doghouses again.
I'm sure Lambert was offering "legal" advice to people further right than he is, scaring them into giving him their money.
It's also indicative of the, "Screw you - I've got mine," mindset. At some point, it has to be, "Screw you. I'm getting mine."
