They adopted the name "Red Caps" when Cincinnati joined the NL in 1876, taking the name 'Braves" in 1912. They were later the Boston Bees, then back to the Boston Braves before moves to Milwaukee and Atlanta. "Red Sox" was adopted by the Boston AL team in 1908 as the team name, which had numerous, if unofficial names before that, including "Bean Eaters" and "Pilgrims."
