US manufacturer accuses Trump of keeping him from doubling his workforce in brutally blunt op-ed

According to Kamler, his costs for parts that come out of China have skyrocketed making it hard to keep the price of his bikes down and bringing on more help.

Stating, “Kent International, Inc. is one of the largest suppliers of imported and American-made bicycles in the country,” Kamler further explained, “Over the generations, we’ve weathered all kinds of turns in the industry. But we’ve never dealt with anything like this: heavy tariffs on key commodities, announced with barely any notice. “

According to the businessman, ” our factory is responsible for more than half of the roughly 500,000 bicycles produced in the United States each year. Before President Trump’s trade war, we had plans to grow even further.”

-------------

According to Kamler, Trump’s latest plan to add more tariffs — causing trade talks to fall apart — is further hurting his business and keeping him from more than doubling his workforce.

“The volatility caused by the trade war has thrown a wrench in my company’s domestic ambitions,” admitted, “Ever since our factory opened, I had planned to bring more phases of the manufacturing process home. We’d start by importing steel tubes and welding the bike frames ourselves; from there, we’d buy American steel and make the tubes. Our factory employs 125 people, but that could grow to 300, I thought.”

I kind of remember when all the jobs going over seas for cheap labor and no tariffs on shipping the goods back was a bad thing in liberal circles.

But then I am old (71) and maybe my thinking is wrong.

Very few things in this world are. Somewhere between staunch mercantilism and open rapine is something I like to call smart trade. The sweet spot. Around which we all benefit from foreign trade, without selling out each others store. Then again, nuance is something unknown to our toddler in chief and his motley band of grifters.

The problem here isn't tariffs in and of themselves. A tariff, like any other tool in the toolbox, has its uses. What, when, where and why determines what tools to use. In the hands of a skilled craftsman, they can be used to create and repair. In the hands of a child they can be dangerous to all involved. This particular child has found dad's hammer, thus everything with respect to trade looks like a nail to him. For all our sake's, someone needs to take the hammer away and send his little ass to time out.

Actually, it's more like the little orange toddler has found dad's reciprocating saw and is going to town on the house. What could possible go wrong?

Makes you wonder how people go through this life without learning anything from their mistakes. He ought to just admit he fucked up, move on and don't fucking do it again.

I would imagine most business owners voted for Fat Donnie, thinking he was "one of us." Now that they're finding out what kind of failed businessman he was, and how he didn't care who he f*cked over to get his way, they're learning their idol has feet of clay. Rather than hitch their wagon to a star, they've tied an anchor chain from the Titanic around their necks.

Elections have consequences.

The U.S. had allies against unfair trade with China, but Trump's hatred for all things Obama took care of that. Left to his own insane devices, trump started a trade war with China without the support of anyone else. The man doesn't have the brains of a lobotomized lobster. Just the looks of one.

I still don't think Trump is aware of the fact that the American people are the ones paying the tariffs. I truly believe he thinks China is paying the tariffs. Democrats should be announcing far and wide that this is an unfair tax on the American consumer. Maybe even a few of his bone-headed cult members would take exception with that.

Probably not. Nothing else has dented their love of that cretin.
