The 2020 Bumper Sticker Should Be: Same Policies, but We Promise Less Crazy: Trump Fund-Raising Is in Crisis, and Even Don Jr. Is Sounding the Alarm
With a dysfunctional fund-raising organization and disappointing battleground polling numbers, major donors arent stepping up. Theres Trump fatigue, says a longtime Republican donor
https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2019/05/trump-2020-fund-raising-don-jr
On Tuesday night, several hundred Republican donors gathered in the Presidential Ballroom at the Trump International Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue for a fund-raiser to unofficially kick off Trumps 2020 re-election. Trumpworld eminences including Vice President Mike Pence, campaign manager Brad Parscale, and counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway were on hand to pitch donors to sign on as bundlers that would leverage their networks to help the Trump campaign raise Parscales stated goal of $1 billion by Election Day. The event was the brainchild of longtime Bush family supporter Jack Oliver, who pioneered the bundler model for George W. Bushs 2004 re-election and has been tapped by Parscale to win over establishment donors that shunned Trump in 2016. Donors that raise $100,000 will qualify to join the Builders Club and earn perks such as campaign dinners, briefings and commemorative Trump Victory gifts.
Its going to be a hard sell. According to sources, Trump campaign officials are sounding the alarm over the presidents early fund-raising hauls. Trumps son Don Jr. has privately warned donors that Trump only raised around $30 million in the last quarter, and pointed out that the number fell far short of the roughly $45 million Barack Obama raised in the second quarter of 2011 for his 2012 re-election bid, according to a source briefed on the conversations (A source close to Don Jr. disputed this). They need more money, and theres no enthusiasm. They need to amp it up, a Trump donor told me. Wall Street never liked Trump from the beginning. Goldman is filled with people who were Obama fund-raisers, another Trump donor told me. In 2016, Trump raised only about $351 million. Mitt Romneys 2012 campaign took in $483 million.

(8,820 posts)The Republicans will never allow a democrat president in the whitehouse. My suspicion is they will torpedo Trump just before the election, get Pence in the Presidency and then Run Pence as their candidate. They will say to their voters, "see we saved the nation and want it turned over to a fine outstanding man that we can all agree is a fine Republican man......." and we will get all the same, but with much less daily drama.....
They can't run the risk of letting Trump/Pence lose to any Democrat.
A Democrat president and Democrat House would overcome the Republican Senate votes on everything. The Repubs in the Senate are all dirty or dirtier than Trump and they have all been pushing the Republican Agenda every day since Trump took office. The Repub Senate is merely using Trump as a diversion to do a TON of nefarious shit behind Trump's daily smokescreen.
People also need to understand that Trump is in no way smart enough to orchestrate and execute all the myriad of stuff they are doing. There is someone(s) behind the scene directing this......Has anyone heard anything from Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al since Trump got in office or even before he defeated the other Republican Presidential candidates. Do you think those corrupt individuals from "W"'s administration just rode quietly off into the sunset?????????

(81,260 posts)May I respectfully offer - that particular political-context usage is incorrect. And often a tip-off. Im kinda compulsive about little details like that, which just automatically flash red lights at me. It has frequently been a giveaway that the user is not what he/she appears to be.
Always better to say Democratic President. Adjective (or modifier). Not a noun.
This is your fussy old schoolmarm speaking...

(81,260 posts)the kinds of stealth manipulations that abounded last time. Here, too.
But Ive gotta admit - the reaction to it here now is encouraging to see. Looks like many of us have our antennae up and our awareness sharpened, about this little detail in particular. Very small, minute, and easily buried. Kind of a stealth thing under the Im concerned that... cover. Good to see people noticed it - and get what the attempted manipulation is.
Im SERIOUSLY gratified to see that so many of us here are wise to that little tactic. Its a very small detail, but its often a GREAT BIG tell.
Many are fooled by this effort to sow disruption and discord among Democrats.
But not here.

(56,828 posts)that did that in 2008 to vote against Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary.
In Connecticut, the primaries are closed and if you want to change parties (D to R or vice versa) you need to do it months ahead of time. So, these guys were pre-meditated in their hate of Hillary. I think you can switch from Independent to D or R right up to primary day, but switching parties needs to be done well in advance.
