Big wigs in the GOP won't go on Tweety's show because he is tough on them. So he doesn't get many opportunities to engage them directly.
He patiently waited until there was 4 minutes until a hard break to make his move so Joe and Mika couldn't cut him off or go to a soft break.
Tweety is a veteran newsman and knows that Priebus would have no time to respond.
After the break, Priebus was no longer on the panel. He was probably in the green room on the phone with the producer of the show.
It was a beautiful 3-4 minutes of TV, and it will be viral over the next 24 hours.

(31,706 posts)I watched Tweety during the entire segment and the first half he pretty much sits back and casually objects now and then. You could see Rheinhold's lies and dogwhistles were starting to get to him. Whether he purposely sandbagged Rheinhold or not, Tweety's questions and words were spot on and Rheinhold through more gas on the fire with the "European" line.
You can see how Tweety is offended by the racist tone of this election and had a chance to go after one of the "designers" of this sleeze. The sad part is Tweety is a minority in the corporate media who will stare down these doucherockets...witness how the others on that panel (especially Brokaw...playing the false equivelency card) reacted...
Cha
(319,115 posts)heard of too many times when he does that false equivelency thing and actually carries gop water. I would have liked to have seen the expression on brokaw's face when Tweety was giving it to Rince.

These lines, this racist message, is something the RNC is saying to please their racist voters. They all know better.
When I talk to Los Angeles voters, they tell me how much they like Obama. They are sick and tired of the racism. And the birtherism is an insult to every American born overseas.
Yes. The president has to be born a citizen. But that doesn't mean you have to make naturalized citizens feel like dirt.
If you ever have the privilege of attending a naturalization ceremony in a large city like N.Y. or Los Angeles, you will understand why immigrants are hurt by the Republican racism and born-in-America elitism.

(3,576 posts)ads and campaigning. I disagree wholeheartedly and find this statement to be a very false equivalency. Every ad approved by the President is issue oriented and above board. I have not seen one negative or dirty personal ad from the Presidents campaign. Romney has accused the president of being "hateful" which is patently a lie and he keeps pushing the birther bull shit.

(137 posts)Nice job by Chris Matthews to put Priebus in his place. Mathews had been critical of the the GOP playing the race card all year long. He finally stuck the issue right in Priebus's face and made him pay.
Priebus is such a self-righteous, over-officious jerk; he had no answer to Chris's allegations. That "weak attempt at humor" was nothing more than a poor excuse for throwing red meat to the knuckle-dragging base. I couldn't help but laugh as Priebus kept looking at Mica and Joe for help. I'm glad Chis put him on the spot. Priebus left with tail tucked between his legs.
Nice job, Chris. You got my week off to a great start.

That condescension tells me the whole story about what Republicans think about us progressives, poor, women, gays, environmentalists, liberals, etc. We don't count. Well guess what? I don't listen to them because they make me want to puke.

That is the extent of his "journalistic" experience.

(2,011 posts)This will be portrayed by the republicans as an unfair attack on Preibus by a member of the "liberal media". The fact that he is more of a centrist would be more validating of the criticism he delivered, no?. The whole "your team vs. our team" approach to politics has been not only divisive, but ultimately destructive. The republicans are masters of the technique. They have discovered that its a great immunizing tool for any crap they want to sell. All criticism is illegitimate because it comes from "your team" and is therefore biased. Legitimate policy debate no longer exists. There is only your view and my view. I'm always right, your always wrong. The consequences of this approach have never been more apparent than during the past 3 1/2 years where the republicans have been able to bring a halt to the governing of our nation. The media has been complicit by taking the approach that Brokaw enunciated during this exchange. Congratulations to Matthews for clearly and emphatically calling BS on the entire republican narrative in a way that few others have. I don't care if he's liberal, moderate or conservative, it was an important message for someone to convey. Hopefully other journalists may have seen this and noticed that he didn't spontaneously combust while doing so and that may give them the courage to do the same.

(2,393 posts)I was loading the dishwasher and I heard Chris Matthews laying into Priebus. I couldn't believe it! I ran into the TV room and I had to rewind it on the DVR to make sure I heard every word. Priebus is a spineless little twerp and I was proud of Chris for having the courage to call him out for what he was. The Tom Brokaw morale relativism, "Everyone does it" rings so false here. This is a signature move of the Republican Party. No different than the Nixonian "States Rights" as a code word for bigotry.
