.... is because it detracts from the message. Right-wingers read this and instead of absorbing the message, their first reaction is probably, " Dumb libs, can't even spell", even though right-wingers spotting a spelling error is quite a stretch in itself. 
Never met a righty who could write a grammatically correct diatribe. Spelling, well that is always a bonus.
