Scotty's Monday bit of advice, with a contest to win a Qualcomm USB Adapter.
I would drive from New York City to Connecticut, on I-95, and before reaching the first rest area, radio interference would trip the TPS sensors in my car, showing that I was experiencing a system fault. If I pulled into the CT rest area and turned the car off and on again, it would reset itself. If I continued to drive, the TPS would not reset until I got where I was going. This was driving a 2010 Town & Country minivan.

(38,309 posts)There are many kinds of 12 volt plugs that are better, but none of them are elegant.
The Ham radio community seems to have settled on the proprietary Anderson Powerpole system. It's rugged and reliable, but I wouldn't say it's elegant.
A well designed car power outlet would choke off radio noise at the source, it wouldn't transmit back along the wiring. Such an outlet would also be handy for small solar installations in recreational vehicles, sailboats, tiny homes, etc.
Presumably power converters sold in the U.S.A. should be FCC certified, which means they are laboratory tested not to emit disruptive levels of radio frequency energy. But we all know they're not, no thanks to the people who think government regulations are bad.
