Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am tired of Morning Joe constantly being used to promote Mika's newest book.
C'mon Mika. Enough is enough. You've got another book on women being more assertive, blah, blah. We get it. TYVM.
But every show includes a plug for her book and includes footage of her latest "Know Your Values" roadshows.
Geez, I hate when women who have every advantage in her business writing about and profiting from her big "struggles" and how women can learn from her.
What I am learning is that the vanity of the privileged has no boundary. Please stick to the news with the fine lineup of journalists who actually EARN their praise in what they do every day (and by that I don't mean going on morning shows to preen about their latest book).
I respect and admire journalists who actually go to dangerous places and write about what is going on. There are precious few of those getting the spotlight they deserve.

And, the privileged are often oblivious to their privilege. She is a celebrity, and not, in my view, an actual journalist.

Oh, and didn't the show used to have a connection with a coffee brand? I haven't seen it on the shelves in a long time. Maybe that didn't work out so well for them...

Morning Joe scum promotes her books and his band - it's vulgar and wrong

These celebrity name-recognition books make some quick cash for publishers and celebrities but are deceptions upon the public.

(1,262 posts)It's not just Mika on Morning Joe, it's on lot of shows. The host or guest has to bring up the fact that he or she has a book that relates to the topic being discussed. It's shameless.

Mika's trivial book will eventually not be promoted. Try to hold on for a month.

(32,634 posts)To be fair, other MSNBC hosts have used the airwaves to promote their books. I'm thinking of Chris Hays, Steve Kornacki, and even Rachel Maddow promoted her book when it came out a few years ago. So as long as it's held to a quick mention before or after the host's program, no problem. But on-air hawking of the book is something else, and repeated discussions borders on Shopping Network overkill.

(28,254 posts)For Chrissakes, they helped put trump in office. I read that Mika is now trashing Elizabeth Warren, for not kissing up to Fox "News" by appearing there, like other Democratic candidates have unfortunately decided to do.
Withdraw your support from these people. Anything newsworthy or interesting from their show is going to turn up on the news, perhaps here at DU---kind of like what happens with Bill Maher.

(63,912 posts)Mika has her nerve telling Warren what she should/should not do. She was telling Warren she should walk "into the fire" or some such nonsense today. Like Warren is gonna listen to Mika, ha!

He also left a very prestigious teaching position at Princeton to go to CCNY so he wasn't just teaching the "privileged" few but actual kids who has had to struggle to find the means to go to college. I like and admire Krugman a lot.

(10,885 posts)the coy promo photos of Joe and Mika looking like something out of the movie 9 1/2 Weeks.
Their non-acknowledgment of the obvious was nauseating and insulting. Mika's adoring looks at her co-host threatened to put their viewers into a diabetic coma. It came as no surprise to later hear they were bumping boots, but by then I was long gone. These two insipids deserve each other.

(6,280 posts)....that if this book had been written using the exact same words by any woman on the left other than Mika Brzezinski, this thread would be heaping praise upon the author. So far this thread sounds more like jealousy than criticism, while sweeping Daniela Pierre Bravo to the roadside like some minor obstacle in the path of getting to brazinski.
One thing conveniently left out of this thread is the fact that any time a guest appears on their show who has written a book, it is always mentioned, recommended, and highlighted prior to the interview. I hope the book does extremely well and I stand with Daniela Pierre Bravo, an undocumented immigrant turned Dreamer who has achieved success in her life.
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)it was very good of Mika to have Bravo on and give her the praise she needed and got.
That said, I wonder if all this criticism had actually happened in private to Mika and she thought she should do better by women by having a co-author with an unknown female author. If so, she learned and took her own advice and good for Mika. It looks like she has grown in that regard.
However, this occurance was late in the iteration about the "know your value" subject. Better late than never and I'm glad it had such a wonderful result for Ms. Bravo.
And I thank you, quickesst, for reminding me that my irk was with her past book plugging and this was indeed different. I join you in hopes for this book and for the future of this young woman who, as you said, is undocumented and a Dreamer. It's nice for her and it's nice in case Trump is watching. I hope it makes him throw up.
