That's what I suspect - I don't think the Russians are behind him.
The fact that he sent a long, unsolicited memo to the WH explaining his legal theory about the unitary executive indicates he really wanted the job. It just surprises me that even despite his extreme ideology he'd want to roll in Trump's shit.
