to "protect the health of the mother." That was interpreted very early to include the mental well-being of the pregnant woman. I remember when this happened, and abortions began to be more common. Then, Roe v. Wade was decided, which eliminated the need for that language.
That happened in 1967, while Ronald Reagan was Governor of California.

How far we have fallen back now in some states!

(6,282 posts)We need a bumper sticker. I don't remember him being adamantly against abortion in 1980. I think he was forced to move that way as his presidency continued. But I was 10 then. I think it was still considered impolite to discuss abortion openly in those days.
