Arsenal defender says ban also an issue for men, and garners support from Ian Wright
Héctor Bellerín, the Arsenal and Spain defender, has challenged fellow football professionals to speak out against the abortion bill passed in Alabama, in the US, this week which would make it a crime to perform a termination at any stage of pregnancy, even in cases of rape and incest.
Bellerín, 24, tweeted: I wanted to see if anyone from our industry would speak out about the abortion bill, but I guess people are too scared. This isnt just an issue for women, its one for every human being. We fight for equality and this is something men should fight for and not hide away from.
The footballer was widely praised on social media, with the former player Ian Wright posting a gif on Twitter indicating his support.

(12,904 posts)2. Thank you, Hector!
I remember now the process of turning my Republican husband into a Democrat. We had many long discussions about the need for all citizens to stand up for everyones civil rights, whether they belong to the group under attack or not.
If you dont stand up for your brothers and sisters rights, your rights will be the next under attack.
This was important stuff in the process. Serious progress was made in these discussions.

could suspend the university's football schedule next fall and until the law is rescinded.
