It Was Never About Life

By:Trevor LaFauci

snip

A message that women are inherently unequal.

snip

With Georgia and the soon-to-be-made-official Alabama ban on abortion, it isn’t because Republicans care about the unborn although they will certainly claim it is. The essence of being pro-life is instituting polices that protect those from cradle to grave. Yet pro-life Republicans do not support universal access to pre-K education. They do not support the use of food stamps for struggling new mothers. They do not support expanding health care options to low-income families. They do not support increasing funding for education so all children have equal opportunities to school resources. They do not support climate change legislation that addresses pollution in populated areas. They donot support student loan reform making higher education more accessible to low-income families. Every single policy that would create economic stability for the parents of a newborn child, Republican legislators oppose and to do unapologetically. In this way, Republicans are pro-fetus but they are certainly not pro-life.

But what they are for is the patriarchy. For White supremacy. For forcing women to give birth, even when their life is at stake. For demanding that rapists have visitation rights. For Republicans, women are nothing more than vessels to carry children into the world. They are unworthy of equal pay and family leave. They should be seen and not heard. Republicans long for the day when women were pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen. For them, when they say “Make America Great Again” there is a clear vision of women in this way. Donald Trump views Melania this way. Mike Pence’s twisted Dominionist views have him refer to his own wife as “Mother” showing exactly how he views his spouse. Roy Moore openly preyed on young girls and this caused prominent Republicans to not only refuse to denounce his behavior but actually double down on their support for him. And let none of us forget that there is still a Republican base who gleefully wants to lock up Hillary Clinton simply because she has a vagina.

Donald Trump will eventually be gone. But the half-century long culture war will rage on. Today’s Republican Party views 51% of the population as less than human. As less worthy of rights. As less worthy of constitutionally-guaranteed protections. As less worthy of bodily autonomy. These views should not only enrage every single woman but every single man as well. What Republicans are saying is that our mothers, our sisters, and our daughters are less valuable human beings. They are saying that unborn babies should be protected at all costs while the lives of women, mothers, sisters, and daughters are expendable. That is the message they are sending loud and clear. It is a message that is sick, twisted, perverted, and absolutely asinine in America in the year 2019.

Take it to the voting booth. Vote them out. Women need to unite as one voice and men need to boldly stand with us as well. Vote for a future we can believe in. Vote for all of us, all our girls and our children's girls. I refuse to go back.

of the US population yet we are still treated like second class citizens or worse. Too bad some women are too brainwashed to support their own best interests and are female misogynists.

I have met more (lots more) than one brainwashed, misogynistic woman in my life. In fact I have one in my immediate family. It is a shock when you find out that a relative or friend that you thought you knew is a female closet woman hater.

plenty of other men, myself included, standing shoulder to shoulder with our sisters, mothers, and daughters. I've already found my local protest for May 21st.

Made the day great. I think most men get that when we hold women's marches it's not against all men: It's against powerful men who want to centralize their power for personal gain. Most men aren't like that, I don't think.

Some people believe all the church's crap, even though abortion isn't in the bible.

I went to the first and second women's march 2017 and 2018. The first was huge, far far more than expected in Boston. 175K. It wasn't just the women marching. It wasn't just the women marching or caring. Women. Men. Gay. Straight. All Colors. All Religions. All.

Thanks.

carefully crafted to sound good while making sure that someone gets screwed.

"Pro-life" is probably the most egregious, considering how many people it affects negatively. How any woman could support any of that bullshit really amazes me. Anybody who claims a bogus "moral imperative" to control others' lives has neither my support nor my respect.

People wonder how I can be so dismissive of religions in general. It is because of shit like that.

The repuglicons are just about talking points.

I've never met one doing real community service, lending a hand, helping build homes.

I've met quite a few who think community service means being on the Rotary Club or Chamber of Commerce. Perhaps a coach for their kids' school team.

Republicans are in favor of killing living babies and have done so.

Pro-life is a myth.

The supposed pro-lifers cared naught when the state of Texas (republican gov, republican Prez) deliberately killed living baby Sun Hudson against the mother's wishes because he was an inconvenience to the state.

It is not a matter of life to the supposed pro-lifers.

It is a matter of control.

That's my all time favorite bumper sticker about abortion. The life of the unborn fetus is sacred, but once they're born - you're on your own, baby! But all this pro-life BS is just one big piece of patriarchal hypocrisy that stinks to high heaven. Their real motive and agenda is keeping women as baby making machines, and as the procreative property of men.
