Bikers bring 30,000 meals to feed migrants at facility in New Mexico

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The arrival of about 25 motorcycles announced the donation of 30,000 non-perishable meals for migrants being processed at a facility in New Mexico.

Las Cruces Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Daniels, the emergency operations commander on scene, said the donation was a welcome surprise.

The bikers arrived Friday ready to unload five or six pallets' worth of meals from Pack Away Hunger, an Indiana-based nonprofit that distributes meals in pouches that can be prepared with hot water. The organization delivers to countries worldwide.

They arrived without announcement, and with the help of migrants, who immediately lined up to assist, the meals were unloaded in minutes.

Their first stop had been the nearby transitional living community, Camp Hope, where they delivered 5,000 meals.

City spokesman Udell Vigil told the Sun-News the motorcycle clubs at the scene included the Bandidos, Soldados, Squad, Riga, and Guardians of Children.

Victoria Fisk, a former educator who lives in Las Cruces, told the Sun-News the donation came about after she contacted a friend who worked with Pack Away Hunger.

As it happened, a large shipment was being organized for sites in Guatemala and Honduras, she said, and the organization arranged to send some meals to Las Cruces.

Not today. They're busy scaring Democrats with their loud exhaust.
I'm betting there are more decent Americans than there are Trump sycophants . Humanity is a terrible thing to lose.

Billers can come unannounced but Congress is turned away. Most have more compassionate people at this location.

Great example of people helping others. So, the migrants pitched in and had the meals unloaded in a very short time. No big surprise, since they WANT to work, right? Wonderful story. Thanks for posting this.

Yesterday, I watched an episode of Independent Lens on PBS about the migrant workers from Mexico who pick the grapes on vineyards in Sonoma and Napa. Really opened my eyes (again) about how hard these people work when the grape harvest is ready. Americans are way too removed from the fancy wines they drink and forget the fact that someone did the hard work to pick those grapes. This is true of many of the crops in our country. Hell, if they all stayed in Mexico we'd freakin' starve to death and the crops would all rot on the trees/vines/ground.

One of the vineyards they focused on was actually owned by a Mexican American family whose prior generations came here decades ago and built their family owned vineyard from the hard work of their forefathers/mothers.

I'd recommend this episode to anyone who wants to see the truth of our southern neighbors.

Overwhelming acts of kindness in the face of his intolerance.
