We know what the Trump/Barr strategy is, to not turn over documents to not appear before committees, to ignore subpoenas, to delay everything in the courts until after the election. They don't even need to win the court cases, that would be a bonus.
If you have a lot of grass to mow in your yard and it looks like it may rain. You have a riding lawn mower and you have a push mower. Which mower are you going to choose to get your grass cut before it rains?
Holding impeachment hearings carries more clout with the courts. Holding impeachment hearings will give Democrats a better chance to expedite the court cases before the election. Debates start in the fall. The first votes are in February, I believe. It doesn't give much time before the rain falls.
I like the content on Raw Story, but I hate the ads and long running script, but it is still better than "The Hill."

Maybe we can get Republicans to hold the hearings, I see we have one on board who has bashed Trump more strongly than most Democrats, not counting Auntie Maxine and the Rep from Texas whose name escapes me.

(18,486 posts)There is no legal or statutory requirement that any court expedite a request or proceeding because it's being done in the context of impeachment.
Also, if impeachment is conducted as an open ended investigation rather than a process with a clear intended endpoint, any sense of heightened urgency is likely lost.
I agree that it MIGHT make it more likely for courts to move quicker BUT I don't think that the value of that remote possibility outweighs the downsides of moving ahead prematurely. That will likely change, but we're not there yet.
Moreover, the true urgency is not that we're trying to impeach but that we're trying to put in check and call to account a dangerous, lawless president. That is an urgent task whether it's being done through the impeachment process or through another form of congressional oversight.
