Speaking to the The Hollywood Reporter, he said:
"If the heartbeat bill makes it through the court system, I will not work in Georgia, or any other state, that is so disgracefully at odds with womens rights."
This, gents, is how to be a real standup ally to your sisters over in America, whose human rights are being stripped away from them by in Alabamas case 25 men.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, in the event that other actors follow in Batemans footsteps by protesting the ban, the action could have a serious affect on Georgias economy.
The state has a famously generous 30 percent tax credit system, meaning its used by a lot of major TV and movie companies for production and filming.

(46,682 posts)"Most of the shooting locations are in the Atlanta area at Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier, rather than at the Lake of the Ozarks, because of tax breaks offered by the state of Georgia. The film crew constructed a set in Georgia after extensively studying the Alhonna Resort property."

(8,090 posts)I think the framing needs to be expanded -- it's not just men making these anti-woman decisions. Good for Bateman, though. If this bill succeeds, I hope GA takes a hit like NC did with its idiotic bathroom bill.

(5,012 posts)state legislator (state representative Terri Collins) but I heard it was written by a male lobbyist (one Eric Johnson, Alabama Pro-Life Coalition president)

(5,012 posts)Some digging and found conflicting stories - one said written by woman, the other was an interview with the guy. Knowing how our political system works, I concluded what I told you. As with much of the right's extremist legislation, I think the person who "officially" wrote it, ie introduced it as a bill, is not the same person or even office who actually wrote it.

(4,448 posts)because honestly It wasn't noticeable here.
They need to hit GA about 1,000 times harder than the handful of protests in NC.

(8,090 posts)The state's image as a "reasonable" Southern state was tarnished.
You really don't think it wasn't noticeable?

(4,448 posts)I read about it in the papers. But I didn't see anything outside of internet chat boards.

(37,748 posts)HB 2s enactment cost North Carolina more than $3.76 billion in lost revenue to the state (as per AP analysis). Deutsche Bank AG and PayPal Holdings Inc reversed expansion plans in the state. Entertainers such as Bruce Springsteen and Itzhak Perlman canceled concerts. This was well-known outside of a few "message boards."
The withdrawal of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament games and the National Basketball Association All-Star game, which had been awarded to Charlotte, was the straw that broke the camel's back leading to a repeal back by two of its authors.
fescuerescue
(4,448 posts)But I didn't notice. I live in the Capital (Raleigh), not Charlotte and don't go to many concerts or basketball games. I don't really run in those circles I suppose.
Yea I remember when the law was repealed which was a good thing.

(22,976 posts)Some folks might pass off Batemans boycott as no big deal.
But it is, and the more people who refuse to accept this INSANE war on women, even in what may seem like small gestures, the pushback strengthens. This is how change begins.

(7,603 posts)at least the ones I know--would be something along the lines of "We don't need no Hollywood folks comin' down here and tellin' us how to live!"

(31,261 posts)The democratic candidate was pretty progressive. So my guess is no more than half of your fellow residents are saying that they don't want Hollywood people telling them what to do.
I think what our side must do more of is checking our voter registration status often and stop relying on mailing in ballots in red states or counties. We have superior numbers but we too often shoot ourselves in the foot to make republican voting obstruction efforts more effective.

(52 posts)The Walking Dead.
I know they film in GA, wonder what they have to say about the abortion bill there? Would sure send a powerful msg! GA gets a lot of tourism because of The Walking Dead, plus the money from them filming there.
One can wish.

(53,410 posts)And I think it just might change some of that hatefulness wafting out of Georgia.
The Walking Dead is immense not just as a series but also as an international franchise!

(51,567 posts)she said that it is a bad move for people like her who depend on the film industry to make a living. She is a Dem and knows a lot of co workers who are and she said this will hurt them too.
Now I feel badly for supporting a boycott but I still support it.

(2,227 posts)Not In My Back Yard
How about let's do absolutely nothing because no matter what we do, someone on our side will be affected negatively.
Anyone who is affected would hopefully try harder next election to elect politicians that would not put them in this no-win situation.
I gave up a really great friendship during W's reign because my friend, in the student loan industry, thought Obama would cause him to lose his job by regulating his employer, Citibank. I was in the education industry and helped students to get into MAJOR debt to become doctors.
I felt the country more important than my job.
So we parted ways...

(51,567 posts)I like the appropriate "not in my back yard" analogy.

(8,011 posts)anymore! And A LOT of filming is done in Georgia and it ALL needs to come to a COMPLETE STOP! I'm sorry to those of you who live there and especially to those of you who are forced to live there (military, can't leave because of the expense of moving, etc.). It's NOT OKAY! I live in California and even though we've mainly been blue we became even bluer in 2018 because of the Orange County Republican losses because of those of us who were involved in targeting the flippable counties and we did it! I know very little about Georgia and they may be a lost cause regarding politics. I PROMISE I don't mean to sound harsh, I just seriously don't know. Having said that, the entertainment industry really needs to do the filming in blue states.....
Different Drummer
(7,603 posts)That's pretty much the case. There are a few blue areas, but there's a lot more (proudly) red ones.

(9,036 posts)would be. The in-laws get angry at the idea that everyone should have health care. Climate change is all a hoax. They conveniently don't see social security and Medicare as socialist, and they love Trump. I think my head is going to explode.
