And unlike Iraq, the population of Iran may not be fond of their leadership, but they will detest us even more via military intervention. Even if we sit in Tehran, we will never be able to pacify the nation...and Russia will make sure of it. It will be Vietnam all over again.

Meanwhile, North Korea and other hot spots will be emboldened while were stuck in a quagmire.

Iran and Russia have a long bitter history as enemies, in modern times, its been an alliance of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". We depose the Ayatollah, leave after the cost of the war is too high and support at home collapses, Russian backed forces (probably Revolutionary Guard) take control and Re-organize the government without the Theocracy....and open warmer relations with Europe and Asia.

We lose out.
