I am hoping that "Mueller's team" is a single DOJ rat, not Mueller himself, but perhaps hope is a passing fancy of mine, kp

(37,648 posts)I assume because the redacted parts were redacted because they're confidential. He would testify about those behind closed doors.
That's what I read.

(15,265 posts)You would like to believe that there are at least some republicans with so integrity and patriotism with a sense to do the right thing. That doesn't appear to be the case.

(4,615 posts)Who the heck is Mueller's team and why are they speaking for Mueller? Does Mueller agree with "his team"? Does the team consist of Trump and Barr?

(2,785 posts)If there is any truth to this is it all 18 members or 1 or 2 of them that have a problem with Mueller testifying publicly? He needs to testify publicly, because a private testimony is pretty much useless to us.

(28,117 posts)Mueller is straight-up "Law & Order" person and if he'd ignore a request or subpoena to appear before Congress, then
This smells. If it's true, we Dems should throw the book at him.

(10,749 posts)But. . .
On tv legal dramas, the saying goes that you don't ask a witness a question you don't already know the answer to.
I think that's the problem here for Democrats. For all that we put our hopes on the Mueller report, it has been - or at least so far appeared to be - a dud. My fear is that direct questions will result in him saying, no, there's no legal basis for obstruction. Or, sure, there were a lot of indications of conspiracy with the Russians, but no evidence that would justify an indictment. And he's certainly ot going to offer an opinion that, sure, Trump is guilty as hell on obstruction and conspiracy, but we just can't prove it.
Same with McGahn.
I don't know about McGahn's history, but Mueller has a spotless (I think) history of just doing his damn job. He prosecuted bad guys, and they went to jail. He rose to the highest levels of the DOJ. I haven't seen anyone describe him as anything other than a man of honor.
But. . . he and McGahn are still Republicans, maybe of the old school, but still, Republicans. We all know we are in uncharted waters, and it will only be the courage of Republicans to break the stranglehold. And, let's face it. There's no such thing as a courageous Republican.

(32,626 posts)but Mueller chose not to indict a sitting President, because of the sitting President part. The part about the Trump campaign working alongside the Russians to eff up our elections is what is not provable...but the obstruction part we see every damn day.

(32,626 posts)with no names could be anyone. Maybe instead of jail-time for those who don't answer subpoenas, they could go into witness protection, and testify in an undisclosed location.

(11,949 posts)Anyone having hope that Mueller, no matter what he found would be the end of Trump is going to feel screwed.
The republicans are all in. Have been from the git-go. Even if Mueller called him a traitor there will be no conviction
Its always been about 18, which only controlled the damage and now 2020. Where we can end it and start repairing the country.
Everything else is just noise.

(15,805 posts)Color me a tad skeptical here. Was if some DOJ spokesperson under Barr's thumb? Someone who worked under Mueller who was speaking off the cuff and speaking his own views? Or someone who was speaking on behalf of the whole group with the full knowledge and consent of Mueller?
