Ok DU, its time to change history--however I need your help---I am farmer-(wet spring)-and full time caretaker of elderly ill mother. Sorry--not a sob story--it is what it is---however I suspect this community (DU) might just be the ones to really get this going----have posted several times of Congress's power under-----INHERENT CONTEMPT----Statutory process created in 1857----uphelD thru the courts several times since then---LOOK HERE PLEASE--https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RL34097.pdf-----start reading, researching, repost this is you wish to, SPREAD THE WORD FOLKS----the house of representatives can arrest and detain ANYONE who defies a congressional subpoena. I will check in when time allows--usually very late pm--but if DU can sink it's teeth into this---some people might just change their actions---it only takes one small pebble to start an AVALANCHE---that coud be YOU https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RL34097.pdf edit to correct links

(49,001 posts)Perhaps you have a reason. Like, you want people to struggle to read your post?
I'm curious as to what reason you might have.
Your link is still broken.

The 2nd link doesn't have hyphens.

Reading leads to book learning. Horrors!

Bubbazero, thank you so much for your time in researching this. I downloaded the document and read just enough to make me want more info. It seems you're on the right track! 🙏
Good luck with your mother and with your farm. 🍀

(1,642 posts)Whenever Pelosi and Nadler are interviewed, I see two people who really wish this wasn't happening. These are very reluctant warriors.
Unfortunately, the Dem party is in a fight for its life. These two must do their duty -- enforce the law -- impeach!

(42,700 posts)There is a reason that it hasn't been invoked in 85 years. It's a time consuming process that ultimately won't do what people think it will do. The moment (and I mean the moment) that the Sergeant at Arms is authorized (by a party line vote that probably won't even be unanimous among the Democrats) to arrest someone, that someone's attorney will be ready to file a habeas corpus petition that will result in the person not being held in "Congressional jail" but will shift matters to the courts where it is all but certain the judge will allow the targeted individual out on his or her own recognizance while the court considers arguments as to whether the subpoena underlying the invocation of contempt was a valid subpoena. Once the court decides it is, the case will be appealed first to the DC Circuit and then to the Supreme Court. During this process, the targeted individual will not be in "jail" and will not have complied with the subpoena.

(296 posts)Sir this reply is not snark---the purpose would be to force the ADMINISTRATION to seek an injunction to stop the detainment. Even if not stopped, most like judge would order release while consideration of validity of arrest. Statutory process clear, precedents clear, point is to have quick path to SCOTUS. Not months or years as in civil court, but days maybe 3-4 weeks instead. Don't believe me, seriously I cant even post rite--however I can still read--you might find these two individuals enlightening ROBERT REICH https://www.newsweek.com/robert-reich-arrest-william-barr-attorney-general-supboena-congress-1408786 or RICHARD PAINTER
