Trump, Pence...Whatever...

They're both awful. So, if we impeach Trump and the Senate removes him, we get Pence. What will we have gained?

I want to replace Trump with a Democrat, which we can do next November. Replacing him with a man who calls his wife "Mother" doesn't seem like a wonderful idea, and that's exactly what would happen.

So, let's focus on replacing Trump with a Democrat, shall we?

There's certainly work to be done, aplenty. Pick your favorite candidate and try to get him or her the nomination and start planning for GOTV efforts next year.

The investigations will continue, and they can only lead to trouble for Trump in the 2020 election. So, let them continue. Impeachment won't remove Trump, and even if it did, there Pence would be, sitting in the White House.

Feh!

command the loyalty of the rabid base, nor is he likely to energize voters the way the Democratic base is likely to be energized in 2020. The main risk, as I see it, is that if Trump is gone, the Democratic base might all too easily sink back into apathy, thinking that getting rid of Trump solves the problem, when in fact the entire GOP is the problem. Thus, even unenthusiastic Republican voters could elect Pence (or whoever ends up replacing Trump at the top of the ticket), especially since the Never-Trumpers like Nicolle Wallace, Rick Wilson, Richard Painter, and David Frum, etc., would return to voting GOP and encourage the people they influence to do the same.

That's not what I want resting in his hands. Pence would be in office for ten minutes, and tRump would be declared as pure as snow. No thank you.

What needs to be considered is Censure.
www.referencer.in/CS_Regulations/CCS(CCA)Rules1965/GOI_Decisions_11.aspx
"An order of “Censure” is a formal and public act intended to convey that the person concerned has been guilty of some blameworthy act or omission for which it has been found necessary to award him a formal punishment, and nothing can amount to a “censure” unless it is intended to be such a formal punishment and imposed …"

https://www.nj.com/.../08/whats_the_difference_between_censure_and_impeachme.html
"A majority is all that's needed to censure. While a majority of the House can impeach a president, it takes two-thirds of the Senate to convict and remove the chief executive from office. The Senate could pass a censure resolution by majority vote."
