Former acting FBI director Andrew McCabe claimed he made the decision to remove Peter Strzok from Special Counsel Robert Muellers team in the summer of 2017 after a series of anti-Trump text messages surfaced between the former FBI special agent and another official with whom he was romantically involved.
It was long thought that Mueller had Strzok removed after the texts between him and Lisa Page were uncovered. But McCabe's apparent role was revealed in a newly released transcript from his House Judiciary Committee interview on Dec. 21, 2017.
Asked if he was directly involved in the firing of Strzok, McCabe replied: Yes.
McCabe told lawmakers that on July 27, 2017, he was contacted by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitzs office.

(23,002 posts)Seems the folks who can't be relied on to be non-partisan and do their jobs, are the people removing others from doing their jobs. The russian party. Nobody said you get to be investigated by only your own party, or it's conclusions are null and void. Wouldn't that be nice. Wonder how long HRCs investigation charade had lasted?
18 angry Democrats indeed. UGH.

(4,395 posts)it's about being in a position of public trust where you are expected to be impartial and then using work property to send personal messages which call into questions your ability to conduct your job impartially.
I have massive respect for what Peter Stzrok has done for this country over the course of his career but he screwed the pooch on this one and deserved to be taken off the investigation.

(23,002 posts)It was a handful of texts. Who gives two shits? FBI agents are screened, before being hired, as to being impartial. Part of the job. I guess none of those other guys had pro trump or anti hillary texts? Who knows right? bc they probably never looked for them.

(4,395 posts)I give a shit. I've worked in government and if I'd done what he did on my work issued phone I would have been fired. It was stupid and unprofessional.
If you're going to fight evil you have to hold yourself to a higher standard or otherwise you give them a hook for their "whataboutism" and whining and complaining about how they're the real victim and are being persecuted.
You know, exactly what happened here.
Stzrok's unprofessional conduct helped the right wing take the focus off of the actual story - Trump's corruption and compromise. And that's why people who do these kinds of politically charged investigations for a living recognised the need to immediately move him off the case.

(23,002 posts)trump is collaborating w russia. They were saying what most Americans were. So far trump hasnt paid at all for what he's done. But, good people, w many years on the job, get removed or fired. (Some DAYS before their retirement.)
If he's getting away w that, why do we hold rank and file to a higher standard? That's ok. I see you are principled.
The focus didnt get taken off bc of stroks texts, it was bc trump needed a diversion. As long as we are endeavoring to be honest and equitable, let's be honest and equitable.

(14,897 posts)Strzok made fun of Hillary, Bernie and everyone else. And while McCabe made the decision, AAG Rosenstein is the guy who approved the move. Recused general Dixie Sessions made clear dear leaders wishes whenever it twittered.
Focusing on what emails zinged the Bankrupt Unstable Moron, corrupt corporate media made out Strzok was going out of his way to slam the corrupt bum.
Strzok was the global mafiyas enemy. Like who fired him, corrupt corporate media missed that story, too.
