Trump faces a steep uphill climb to a second term, even if its far too early to count him out.
Trump campaign aides have talked up the presidents chances of doing even better than he did in 2016. They note the economy is strong and that he has scored some of the highest poll ratings of his tenure since the release of special counsel Robert Muellers report.
But the headwinds for Trump are severe.
One of the largest: His polarizing approach looks to be more hindrance than help.
In four separate polls over the past month, more than 50 percent of respondents said they would not vote for him again or were unlikely to do so. The percentage who said they would vote for him never rose higher than 38.

(16,730 posts)Those sticking with him despite his criminality is mind-boggling at best. Even if he did actually shoot an unarmed person 5th Avenue, many would still vote for him and say he did it in self defense. That is how addicted they are to Trump.

(58,605 posts)in an election with historically low turnout. We need to GOTV to continue what we did in 2018. That means women, blacks, Native Americans, Hispanics, etc.
We need to overwhelm the system with enough votes that they can't cheat. It's the only way.
We can do this.

(58,605 posts)No time for complacency. At least Alabama and some other red states are hell bent on motivating our base. Although, I think women have been pretty well motivated since 2016. Hopefully it continues.
Will have to remember to send the Repubs a thank you note if we sweep in 2020.
