An expert is predicting that the 2020 presidential election will have the highest voter turnout since at least 1916, Axios reports. Michael McDonald, a political science associate professor at the University of Florida said 2020 voter turnout could be as high as 67 percent. McDonald said the prediction partially comes from Trump, who is driving unhappy voters to the polls. He also said that the number of Trump voters is not increasing.
"It doesnt seem to be the candidates who were running in 2018; there wasnt hyper competition driving turnout; some states made it easier to vote, but that cant explain it because the increase was happening in every state," McDonald said. So, the only explanation is Donald Trump because hes the only major factor thats changed in our politics since 2014."
McDonald predicted that young people, people of color and low-income people, who typically vote Democratic, will likely vote in larger numbers next year.
BAM!! Trump is going down in 2020, bigly.

(7,533 posts)I believe there is a wave coming that will dwarf the 2018 midterms. The recent anti-abortion legislation in Talibama and elsewhere should doom the GOP in 2020. I also think we'll see the most blatant GOP attempts at election fraud to date (the usual places...Ohio, Florida, perhaps Pennsylvania and Michigan). We'll also see outside interference. Still, it will be for naught. Women will be the agents of the GOP's demise, and rightly so.

Late Edit* I just wish the Senate picture looked better. I think it will remain a ball-breaker for Dems for some time.
Yes, you are no doubt correct in your analysis.
I see a continuing huge backlash due to anti-women/anti-abortion policies of the GOP.
BTW: other states where election fraud, to restrict voting rights include: North Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin.

(82,849 posts)In yesterday's Kentucky primary, Democratic turnout was more than 80% of what it was for the 2018 general. THAT is a motivated electorate.
