John Harwood tweet about Trump and Pelosi:

Last edited Wed May 22, 2019, 01:37 PM - Edit history (1)

lots of talk about Trump’s intuitive skill at goading adversaries into mistakes, including potentially an ill-advised impeachment effort

if goading adversaries into mistakes is the game, Pelosi is winning it

Editing to add another Harwood tweet:

Pelosi particularly enjoys needling Trump’s projection of masculinity

she ascribed his blow-up today to “a lack of confidence that he could match the greatness of the challenge” on America’s infrastructure

He tweeted that twice, a couple of minutes apart. Not sure if he'll delete one of the duplicate tweets, since both already have lots of replies, retweets and likes.

1. Trump regards himself as the smartest guy in the room.

Hardly anyone else does. He's being wrapped in a democratic cocoon, and he doesn't even know it.

Then I strut around like a rooster with my chest stuck out, patting myself on the back for being the smartest person in the room.

Then one person shows up beside me and ruin it all for me.

But at least I realize more that Trump does at that moment.

He does it cuz he it feeds his pathology. If he can anger or hurt or exploit someone else, he gets off on that.

trying to turn something that is horrible for them into something that is horrible for Ds.

Country pretty much falls for it every time, so why should they stop?

largely be attributed to sitting on the limbaugh and sons bandwagon. limbaugh/rw radio repetition/memes (maybe from putin/kremlin) are trump's guideposts- hating and blaming immigrants, democrats, etc

is the process by which a legislative body levels charges against a government official. ... Once an individual is impeached, he or she must then face the possibility of conviction by a legislative vote, which judgment entails removal from office.

If the votes aren’t there, impeachment is just a toothless tiger, and Rump will have scored another win.

Obviously Nancy knows the votes aren’t there yet.

18. There ARE votes for impeachment by the House, just not for conviction(removal) in the Senate...yet.

We have the House majority. Nancy has shown she can get the House Democrats in line on anything she wants. Nancy Pelosi is making a big mistake if she does not go forward with formal impeachment investigation hearings in the House. Not only do formal impeachment investigation hearings entitle her to the secret Mueller grand jury info (whereas the regular oversight hearings she is doing do not) but they serve as a powerful rebuke of the President.

"If the Democrats voted for articles of impeachment, that in itself would be a huge blow to the historical legacy of this President and permanent part of the record with both parties being forced to say where they stand on his use of power. Even if Senate Republicans decided to keep the President in power, that vote would be an extremely important statement for the country. It would be a public statement about what is right and what is wrong.

Although it is impossible to predict how things will play out politically, it is far from clear that having the House vote on articles of impeachment would help the President. Even if Democrats want to play the partisan game, one can imagine that taking such action would energize the Democratic base, sway moderates to the idea that continuing with this presidency for two terms is unacceptable and do more than anything else to define how voters see this President.

Trump's base is energized all the time anyway, so it is unclear an impeachment process would affect their turnout in the 2020 election. The President's national approval ratings are still miserable, and the charges that he faces are far more serious than anything Clinton confronted." https://www.cnn.com/2019/05/22/opinions/nancy-pelosi-is-making-a-big-mistake-on-impeachment-zelizer/index.html

knows her way around the "boxing ring". She was elected to the oft thankless leadership position by her peers. So far, she has succeeded in feeding the media, while taking our message to their viewers, without spending a campaign nickle. Brava, Madame Speaker, well played!

She knows McConnell won’t pass an infrastructure bill. Trump wanted an excuse to take his ball home. But he reinforced his inability to solve a problem broadly demanded. Aaron Aster....So true Aaron
