I think Matador Nancy is after bigger game than just Trumpolini
She waves a red dress in front of the orange Bullshit Generator, and he erupts in a volcano of insane and dishonest bullshit, charging madly in various directions. Bit by bit, she goads him into showing how unhinged and unfit he is. But a matador doesn't go for the kill on the first charge, or the second or third. The matador works the bull until it's almost ready to do itself in.
Meanwhile, House and Senate Republicans continue to graft themselves to Trumpolini at the hip. One (Justin Amash) peeled off a bit, but I think Nancy wants them to peel off slowly, not quickly.
The shit is gonna hit the fan at some point, whether it's from subpeonas, court decisions, Mueller testimony, whistleblowers, ex-Deutsche Bank employees, new Daniel Ellsbergs, or whatever means (probably many of those possibilities). His taxes will come out one way or another. His financial dealings will come out one way or another. His money laundering for the Russian mafia will come out. Based on how badly Putin's putative North American mob don (don Donnie) doesn't want any of that to come out, it's clear that when it all does come out, it's going to be absolutely horrible for don Donnie.
What's coming is qualitatively different from all we've heard so far about obstruction and collusion and other big words that average Americans don't even hear, much less understand or care about. (Average Americans aren't on DU.) What's coming is different from the threats to democracy that we care about here, but that average Americans put their fingers in their ears about. When Ben Franklin says, "A republic, if you can keep it," average Americans put their fingers in their ears after the first two words, and instead of heeding his warning, they believe that it can't happen here so it isn't happening here.
What's coming is about what average Americans can understand. To people who think that "cheating on their taxes" means overvaluing their Goodwill donations, a billionaire not paying taxes for ten years is not going to go over well. A billionaire defrauding banks won't go over well with people who know that if they lied to a bank, they'd be in deep shit. Receiving billions from Russians for laundering their ill-gotten money and not paying taxes on it won't go well, probably even with some MAGAts.
If all the shit hits the fan this summer, then the Republicans will have time to detach themselves from his hip before election day. But if it all comes out gradually between now and next summer, they will continue to ignore the bit-by-bit accumulation of bullshit and keep themselves lashed tightly to him, until the middle of election season when it will be too late for them to run from him. (It's kind of giving them the slow-boil-the-frog treatment.)
When don Donnie becomes such a total disgrace that even low information head-in-the-sand voters know it, then all our House and Senate candidates will be running against Repubs that are grafted at the hip to the total disgrace. When the matador finally thrusts the sword into the Bullshit Generator and the bull collapses, those who are still lashed to him will be crushed by him as he goes down. Can a bull crush an elephant? If the elephant's head is entirely up the butt of the bull and the bull falls really hard.
