Baseball Great Hank Aaron: Nobody in White House he would want to see

Hall of Fame outfielder Hank Aaron said Friday that he supports athletes who use their platform to speak about social and political issues, adding that he would not visit the White House today if he were part of a championship-winning team.

"There’s nobody there I want to see," Aaron said at a ceremony for the "Hank Aaron Champion for Justice Awards" in Atlanta, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"I can understand where the players are coming from. I really do. I understand they have their own issues and things they feel conviction about. They have a right to that, and I probably would be the same way, there’s no question about it."

He had those quick wrists and hit what Dizzy Dean called "frozen ropes".

The Sey Hey Kid was my first. Saw Hand hit homers at the Polo Grounds as a young kid. As far as I am concerned, he is the all time home run record holder.

he is still the all-time home run champion. Barry Bonds records should be tossed.

For these cheaters, the Baseball Encyclopedia should show Games Played and leave all other columns blank.

That would be a major blow to their egos.

just a power hitter. A .305 lifetime hitter, over 3,700 hits, almost 2,300 runs batted in. He could run, field and had a great arm. It was a pleasure to be able to watch Henry, Willie Mays, Harmon Killebrew, Frank Robinson and countless other greats play as a kid. Great players and more importantly, great people.

Hank hit 755 HRs and never hit 50 in a year.
That's like hitting 40 a year for 19 straight years!
There was no 4 seasons with 3 in the 50s
He just was steady Eddie! Pretty cool!

Went to several games that year. When I was low on funds a couple of times I sat in those $1.00 seats in center field.

Count 'em: Jackie Robinson, Bill Russell, Jim Brown, Curt Flood, those 2 guys at the Mexico City Olympics, and don't forget Billie Jean King.

And Rosie Grier and Rafer Johnson grabbed RFK's assassin. These were champions on and off the field.

On a 19 inch B&W television with my dad in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My dad was from a rural south white family but he explained to me it was a great accomplishment. Fortunately my dad left the rural south of the 50s for college to escape, well, the rural south.

Only as an adult did I learn of the hate Aaron faced throughout his career and especially in the South as he moved closer to and eventually beat Ruth’s record. Not everyone celebrated his accomplishment. Not much has changed.
