They've managed to mostly put Trump to work for them, but he can never be their man. Pence is. Agree that if this were presented by major sources as desirable and might happen, we should suspect a really big shift was in the wind.

And no, I searched just the other day and found nothing. But we wouldn't until it was happening. Nothing would be "grassroots" about what I'm imagining.

Best guess it won't happen -- unless something caused Trump's RW voter support to drop really significantly, threatening control of the senate along with the WH. Not impossible to imagine...

acquiring and maintaining power by being so convincingly "pious" that even the others who hid their real selves and motivations under the disguise of "religious faith" were afraid to question. They were so afraid of being revealed as heretics themselves that they could not even entertain the thought that the lead character might be an imposter as well.

I can still remember the lead character quelling any potential criticism by merely walking into the room, putting his head down as if in trance or talking in tongues.

Unbelievably I don't remember the ending.

But, THAT is Pence in a nutshell and yeah, pun intended. He just comes in acting all pious and humble and Trump, who wears his fake religious conversion hypocrisy as a neon sign demurs. Not that Trump would consider Pence's "act" as any more than that, but he sees the impact of Pence's facade on the other religious fakers and demurs. "Religious belief" is no more than means to an end.

But, that is why I think Pence is largely safe. Trump is the wildcard, for sure, but I just don't see him shoving him off the ticket unless his reelection prospects quickly become dire.
