One of the lead architects of the Alabama bill made this view even more plain when he stated that the measure, which purports to protect fertilized eggs, embryos, and fetuses, would not actually apply to all embryos. After all, if you argue that life begins at conception, thats a big problem for I.V.F. In the name of protecting life, anti-abortion legislators could functionally outlaw fertility treatments that involve fertilizing eggs and selecting the strongest embryos for implantation. But dont worry, said Alabama State Senator Clyde Chambliss: The egg in the lab doesnt apply. Its not in a woman. Shes not pregnant.

I dunno, something doesn't sound equal... er, right about that, I've been thinking about it for 14 minutes, just doesn't add up.

(5,754 posts)that a fertilized egg is not a person until implantation. So, any procedure that prevents implantation, i.e. birth control, should be equal to keeping the egg in the lab. Now, how will he deal with miscarriages?

(31,979 posts)Not that I am defending the Catholic Church, but at least they dont condone IVF.
I cant believe the Alabama law states this. Pure and simple misogyny is what it is.

(249 posts)but you can punish a woman.
It's about hatred and punishment, don't try to make it make sense.

(9,259 posts)That is the medical definition. Without implantation the magic fertilized egg will be flushed with the Tampax. So I presume that he and the other forced birth extremists are now perfectly fine with any contraceptive that MIGHT stop implantation (some kinds of IUD, possibly Plan B). Since he is now admitting that a zygote is not a person if its in a Petri dish.

It's either religion, personal conviction of family based on religion, junk science, fabricated bullshit.
Let them explain how and justify their belief. That's the only way you can call them out on it.

The triviality of the fetus, diminished to a fine, is all that exists. All other claims are just fabricated bullshit.
In fact, there is once section that talks about miscarriage drugs being given if there is question of paternity.
The churches use this as a tool to fleece congregants, keep them galvanized and perform free labor at church.
