Today's red meat special: Pompeo slams release of "American Taliban" as unconscionable: Fox

Lindh may be despicable, but the U.S. made the plea deal under G.W. Bush, and Lindh has done the time. What does Sec. Pompeo propose, internment?

Pompeo slams release of "American Taliban" as unconscionable: Fox

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo criticized the pending release on Thursday of John Walker Lindh, the American captured in 2001 fighting for the Taliban, and said he believed the decision needed to be reviewed.

“Unexplainable and unconscionable,” Pompeo said in an interview with Fox News. Pompeo said Lindh “still is threatening the United states of America, still committed to the very jihad that he engaged in that killed a great American and a great CIA officer. There’s something deeply troubling and wrong about it.”

and not charged for the countless crimes as accused by Ashcroft and others, the entire process from capture to court was one big clusterf__k and underscores both the absolute incompetence of most of our intelligence and defense community in understanding Islam, tribal Afghanistan, Pakistan, and terrorism in general. I wish I could say that has changed, but I think we are reminded how ignorant those in power are of all things not "Amurika"...

It is long, it is detailed, but this 2003 article by the incomparable Jane Mayer tells it all. Highly recommended, even if it takes considerable time to digest:

Lost in the Jihad
Why did the government’s case against John Walker Lindh collapse?

Then follow up with reading about the DOJ whistleblower lawyer who was absolutely railroaded and abused by DOJ for doing her job with respect to the Lindh prosecution:

She is one tough cookie, that's for sure.

Boy, America sure has redefined itself under this administration.

So, we have a military guy who was apprehended with arsenal of weapons larger than Cleveland who wanted to start a Democratic killing rampage released upon the public, and now this guy who was incarcerated with terrorist ideology getting out after serving his time. That’s the law.

Does anybody think that these two clowns are going to get a job at Amazon and live happily forever after?

What can be said of America when we have become, sadly, the laughing stock of the world? The Russians, Chinese, North Koreans, Germany, France,.......need I go on, all think we’re a joke. Never in my life did I ever think I would see us in this light.

Sad. So sad.

Our country's legal system has glaring issues but has been even more massively perverted since 9/11/01 and the "War on Terror".

get an early release after serving most of his sentence, and all the US soldiers charged with heinous war crimes getting a special presidential pardon from Trump and walking off with no prison time at all?
