Mueller needs to testify in public and in private for this reason.

There are many things Mueller will not be able to talk about in public. Classified information, on going investigations, grand jury testimony, etc. All that should be done in private.

Mueller should testify in public for this reason. Trump and Barr are in public everyday lying, attacking the investigation. They call it a witch hunt, a hoax. Barr misled the public on Muellers report. This must be countered in public by Mueller. The people need to see it and hear from Mueller.

He needs to tell the people why this is not a witch hunt or a hoax. He needs to give his own summary of his report. If this is not done in public Trump and Barr will continue to win the public messaging battle. If Mueller testifies in public the news media will have video to use to counter Trump and Barr whenever they try to mislead the people in public.

Mueller testifying in public at the very least levels the playing field.

1. Apparently, Mueller would give his opening statement

in public, but committee questioning would be private.

I understand that cameras bring out the grandstanding, but Nadler could have just committee counsels ask questions. No grandstanding from either side. More like a federal courtroom setting.

3. That's a great idea but virtually impossible to carry out

Even if they don't do any questioning, the committee members will want to do statements for the record and they generally have that right under committee rules. And even if somehow they manage to get around that, the Ranking Member will get to make a statement. So, there will be grandstanding, no matter what. It would probably be much less than under normal proceedings, but it wouldn't be eliminated.

The other committee members can have their 5 minutes of statement fame after Mueller has testified.

2. At the end of the day Mueller is as partisan as anyone else.

Trump’s only talent is his ability to elicit strong opinions. There is something seriously wrong with anyone who has investigated Trump and does not have strong opinions especially anyone who has lifetime experience in law enforcement.

You would think Mueller would want to testify in public in order to defend his report , his reputation, and the institution he led, the FBI.

Trump is out in public lying about all of it everyday. Trump is calling people Mueller worked with at the FBI traitors because they investigated Trump.

I do not understand what Mueller is doing. Maybe one day he will explain it.

5. It looks like that's the reason he doesn't want to testify in public.

He doesn't want to hurt the repug brand and testifying publically will do exactly that. Mueller, it appears, is disgusting, caring more for party than country. He is such a fucking disappointment. Your solution is perfect, but he doesn't WANT the truth to get out so makes it all or nothing.

9. Also I doubt Trump would use a fake video of Mueller like he did Pelosi

I don't think he would want to tangle with a former FBI director.
