A Republican C-SPAN caller on Sunday effusively thanked Donald Trump for being the most "awesome" commander-in-chief.

During C-SPAN's Washington Journal program, the host announced a caller named Kelly from Santa Clara, California.

"First of all, I want to take my hat off and salute our chief and commander Mr. President Trump," Kelly said. "God bless him and thank him for such an awesome job he's doing."

Without explaining why the president is "awesome," Kelly launched into a rant about Hillary Clinton and Benghazi.

"I want to know why Clinton was allowed to abandon our soldiers and get the people killed in the embassy and she hasn't been charged with treason?" he asked.

Treason, as defined in the U.S. Constitution, is a wartime crime that is punishable by death.

"Don't the people of the United States get tired of hearing the propaganda from the Democrats?" Kelly asked. "They've dummied [sic] us down so much that we can't even see the truth that's in front of us?"

I recommend reading Dr. Altemeyer's The Authoritarians. Excellent, fascinating read, genuinely entertaining and genuinely horrifying. We've all never been more in need of its insights into how it could happen here. Even more important many of those who might join murderous mobs wouldn't if they only knew that about themselves. And many more others wouldn't help it come to that through their votes IF they only realized it could.

"Authoritarian Aggression. When I say authoritarian followers are aggressive I don’t mean they stride into bars and start fights. First of all, high RWAs go to church enormously more often than they go to bars. Secondly, they usually avoid anything approaching a fair fight. Instead they aggress when they believe right and might are on their side.

“Right” for them means, more than anything else, that their hostility is (in their minds) endorsed by established authority, or supports such authority. “Might” means they have a huge physical advantage over their target, in weaponry say, or in numbers, as in a lynch mob.

It’s striking how often authoritarian aggression happens in dark and cowardly ways, in the dark, by cowards who later will do everything they possibly can to avoid responsibility for what they did. Women, children, and others unable to defend themselves are typical victims.
