As lone GOP congressman delays disaster funds, Oklahoma drowns

Rep. Chip Roy blocked disaster funding, citing deficit concerns and a lack of funds for border security. Meanwhile, states across the midwest braced for more strong weather.

Deadly floods and tornadoes continued to wrack Oklahoma over the weekend, killing at least two people and leaving thousands without power, after Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) on Friday declared an emergency in all of the state’s 77 counties.

The declaration by Stitt came the same day Congress shot down a $19.1 billion disaster relief package after a lone GOP representative objected.

“Our nation is strong enough and compassionate enough to have a responsive and fiscally responsive approach to help people who are hurting in the wake of natural disasters,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) said on the House floor as he delayed the funding measure.

The funding package specifically addresses ongoing costs from Hurricanes Michael and Florence, but several of its provisions would also provide relief for floods or tornadoes across the country in 2019.

It's a provision to fast track a non-controversial bill. However, due to Representative fuckface, that vote wasn't unanimous and now will require a debate and vote once the house reconvenes.

A slick legislative move..."snip--Congressional leaders were expected to start their week-long Memorial Day recess having passed a popular, months-stalled disaster-relief package. Instead, Roy used a legislative maneuver to hold up the measure, objecting to its high price tag and that it didn’t include additional money the White House requested for the southern border. He also opposed the effort to pass it quickly by unanimous consent after many lawmakers had already left town."

snip--" When Cruz was elected in 2012, he hired Roy as his chief of staff. Conservatives cheered Cruz’s choice. Erick Erickson of Red State said it showed Cruz would not “sell out the conviction he ran on, but actually, as we’ve all known, does believe in federalism, the 10th Amendment and limited government.”

It's going to pass without border wall finding. All that shithead did was delay funds for disaster victims.

Can someone from Texas explain how a guy like that ended up representing a San Antonio district?

that stretches from Austin out to the west and then south into San Antonio, like an evil tentacle. I used to be represented by Lloyd Doggett (D), then it got "switched" to Lamar Smith (R), now this fool.

Anyway, thanks for the explanation. I sort of see what happened, two small pieces of two blue areas mashed in with a huge amount of mindless red, so an idiot can serve the district.
