Three dead, including child, as maniac stabs 19 at bus stop outside Tokyo

A knife-wielding man stabbed 19 people, including at least 13 young children, at a bus stop just outside Tokyo during rush hour on Tuesday morning.

At least three of the victims died, including two adults and a child, the Associated Press reported. All were rushed to area hospitals.

Japan’s national news broadcaster NHK said two children and one adult “were without vital signs” just after the attack reported Reuters. The suspect stabbed himself in the shoulder and was detained immediately, Reuters said.

“A man stabbed them,” Kawasaki Fire Department spokesman Dai Nagase told Agence France-Presse. “We received an emergency call at 7:44 am (6.44 am Singapore time), which said four elementary schoolchildren were stabbed.”

Police retrieved two knives from the scene, according to BBC News, which also reported that the attack took place near a local train station.
