Senate GOP vows to quickly quash any impeachment charges
Senate GOP vows to quickly quash any impeachment charges
By Alexander Bolton - 05/27/19 04:24 PM EDT GOP senators say that if the House passes articles of impeachment against President Trump they will quickly quash them in the Senate, where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has broad authority to set the parameters of a trial. While McConnell is required to act on articles of impeachment, which require 67 votes — or a two-thirds majority — to convict the president, he and his Republican colleagues have the power to set the rules and ensure the briefest of trials. “I think it would be disposed of very quickly,” said Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). “If it’s based on the Mueller report, or anything like that, it would be quickly disposed of,” he added. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), an adviser to McConnell’s leadership team, said “nothing” would come of impeachment articles passed by the House. Given the Senate GOP firewall, Cornyn, who’s also a member of the Judiciary Committee, said he doubts that Democrats will commence the impeachment process. “It would be defeated. That’s why all they want to do is talk about it,” he said. “They know what the outcome would be.” more... https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/445512-senate-gop-pledges-to-quickly-quash-any-trump-impeachment-charges

Time to vote them out. Republicans don't give a shit about the USA.
And oh, House can start impeachment hearings and expose who the Republicans really are. |

4. This feels like obstruction...
The Senate will not be allowed to do the job they took an oath to do, with the foreknowledge of defeat (to me that means you are not going to be allowed to do your job correctly) how can that not be obstruction?
obstruction noun UK /əbˈstrʌk.ʃən/ US /əbˈstrʌk.ʃən/ [ C or U ] something that blocks a road, passage, entrance, etc. so that nothing can go along it, or the act of blocking something in this way: There's some kind of obstruction on the railway tracks. [ U ] behaviour or actions that prevent something from happening or working correctly: They were charged with obstruction of the police/of justice (= preventing the police/law courts from doing their jobs). [ U ] in sport an occasion when one player gets in the way of another and so prevents them from moving freely: The referee said it was obstruction. 12. Obstruction of what?
If Trump is impeached in the House, the Republican led Senate will rush through the trial, not call any witnesses, and just have a vote on conviction. It will fail, not even getting 50 votes. Then they will say that it is over, and any other investigations are just a political witch hunt. Is this what people really want? When it comes to an impeachment trial, Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham have all of the authority to do whatever they want. The only thing they can't do is not have a trial at all, but there is nothing to stop them from rushing it through to get it over with quickly, knowing that at then end of the day, Trump will still be President.

13. Exactly--there are plenty of impeachable crimes that were not investigated by Mueller
Violations of the emoluments clause, campaign finance violations, etc.

7. How Nice Of Them To Say This......Having Seen/Heard NO Evidence
This is tantamount to a juror declaring that he/she already knows what verdict he/she will render before even a single piece of evidence is presented. And it gets that person dismissed as a juror. So in that vein, I think it might be worth a try to file a Motion with the Supreme Court to remove all the signatories to this declaration as de facto "jurors" in the impeachment trial. It's never been done before, but Senators definitively declaring their bias to the world has never happened before either.
And I agree with the previous poster who said make them do it in front of a national TV audience. That's the whole point. Make these Republican sycophants tie themselves forever to Trump's sinking ship. Look what being tied to Bill Clinton did for Al Gore. |

10. Cornyn: Shitting all over the Constitution...
...as usual. He looks so respectable, right? He's just another Republican thug. Shit on those veterans, Cornyn! Shit on their sacrifices! The Constitution they fought and died for doesn't matter! You've got your fellow thugs, your Comrades to protect! That's what public office is for, right? Cornyn is a pig in a suit. No, wait. I didn't mean to offend pigs. Cornyn is a Lyndsey Graham with white hair.

11. Republicans are not in Washington to serve the country. They serve themselves. They care...
Only for their power. Their predominantly white, entitled, older male power.
Other peoples’ lives don’t matter. The rule of law doesn’t matter. Democracy doesn’t matter. Decency? Not interested. Since the day Obama was elected they’ve been obsessed with obstructing anyone not white, buyable and greedy to the bone. Before Obama, it was still always about the white men capitalists making $. Even (especially) on the backs of their supporters. The Republicans count on the Stupid, the maleable, the ignorant, the poor, the mobs. Women, children, nonwhite men...pffft. Use them, manipulate them, disregard their actual lives and humanity. Fact: they, too, will die. Just not soon enough. |
