Paris, TX 2019. Bigotry and bullying are King

Wearing a sling on his left arm, the injured teen said, “He threw a small ball at me. Since we had never argued or gotten into it over anything, I thought he was playing and I tossed the ball back but it didn’t hit him or anything. I was about to walk off and he was coming toward me from behind and as I was turning back around he started hitting me in my head.” He went on to say, “I didn’t know what was happening so I tried to defend myself but he picked me up in the air and body slammed me on the concrete.”

At least two videos of the incident were placed on social media by the students. The videos revealed a group of white teens circled around the two students as if at a boxing match. Several of the teens had their cell phones out videotaping the assault. Apparently the teens already knew there was going to be an incident because they had their cell phones ready and began videotaping before the actual assault started.

The video begins with the black student tossing the small ball on the floor in front of the white student without it touching him. The white student approached the Black student and began beating him in the head with his fists. The Black student attempted to defend himself but was never able to land a punch. The incident resulted in the Black student having to be taken to the emergency room after he got home from the school. The doctor determined that he had a fracture to his left arm, hematomas to the back of his head, and a concussion. McCarty said the hospital advised her to call the police to report the assault. She said she called the Paris Police Department but the officer who came out told her there was nothing he could do and to report it to the North Lamar officers.
