CNNs Brooke Baldwin on Wednesday showed a devastating side-by-side comparison of statements made by Attorney General Bill Barr and former special counsel Robert Mueller about the results of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
In the middle of a panel discussion in which former FBI agent Asha Rangappa accused Barr of lying about Muellers final report in his four-page summary released two months ago, Baldwin decided to show side-by-side video clips of Barr and Mueller describing the special counsels work to let viewers judge for themselves.
In the first clip, Barr stated that there was no evidence of the Trump campaign collusion with the Russian government to interfere in the 2016 election, whereas Mueller said that there was insufficient evidence to charge a broader conspiracy. In the next clip, Barr claimed that the evidence developed by the special counsel is not sufficient to establish that the president committed and obstruction of justice offense, whereas Mueller said that if we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so.
Rangappa also point out that Barr tried to claim that Muellers decision not to charge Trump with a crime was not based on DOJ policy against indicting a sitting president, whereas Mueller emphasized that the DOJs policy about indicting the president was a crucial factor in his final decision.

(13,776 posts)Not just CNN and MSNBC but the networks that only carry half an hour of evening news will be able to show a montage like that. It wont just be opinion any more. Even the least political news sources have something to sink their teeth into now.
and Mueller gave them the perfect line - it is already the headline around the globe and I expect this line to be the led on network news this evening.

this will get a lot of publicity and will have a lot of staying power. Bad publicity for Trump.

(13,776 posts)Or "methinks the lady doth protest too much." When have Republicans (since 2016) said what they really thought? If their lips are moving, THEY ARE LYING. They DO NOT want impeachment.
Clinton's impeachment backfired because it was so obviously crap. Impeaching a president who's in thrall to a foreign adversary is entirely different.
I think that after today, the Democrats who, for whatever reason, think that impeachment is what Republicans want will have to go ahead with it anyway. Force those Senators to betray their country, in broad daylight. Let's see how that works out for them.
