Departing special counsel Robert S. Mueller III finally spoke publicly Wednesday, and his carefully chosen comments highlight the ways in which he disagrees with his boss, Attorney General William P. Barr, about the facts and the law surrounding the investigation into President Trump.
If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so, Mueller said Wednesday.
[Mueller complained to Barr about his characterization of investigation findings]
Since filing their 448-page report, Mueller and his team have been frustrated by what they perceive as a lack of public understanding about this point...
The president was pleased that Mueller does not want to testify, an aide said...
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, a New York Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, said Muellers comments undercut Barrs past claims.
Congressional Democrats must decide what, if anything, to do with Muellers evidence against President Trump, which detailed potential obstruction of justice. (Taylor Turner/The Washington Post)
At some point, Jeffries insisted, "Mueller is going to tell the whole story.

(46,675 posts)THAT's why I'm angry at Mueller. One month in political life is an eternity. It allowed the right to coalesce around a lie, and it allowed the Dem leaders to get weak kneed about impeachment.

(1,124 posts)but it's more modern and refined than the Karl Marx quote, making it like heroin of the masses... We can just complain here, instead of writing letters to Congress or painting signs and having a newsworthy protest.

(33,032 posts)Mueller's finding of extensive worthy of indictment obstruction.
Is it possible that the obstruction was responsible for preventing the investigators from finding sufficient evidence for a charge of collusion and conspiracy? Isn't the possibility of this screaming for a deeper look?
Oh, and BTW... Okay, I reluctantly agree with Mueller's assertion that a sitting President can't be indited due to the DOJ's misguided policy. However, there were numerous individuals who weren't the President who were likely heavily involved in both the collusion and the obstruction who also weren't indited, such as, Don Trump Jr.

WASHINGTON The House Judiciary Committee voted Wednesday to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt for refusing to turn over an unredacted version of the Russia report after an acrimonious session underscoring the countrys widening political divide.
The rare rebuke approved by a party-line vote of 24-16 after five and a half hours of debate triggered a new escalation of tensions between the Trump administration and House Democrats pressing for a deeper examination of the president and his outside business empire.
The contempt citation for Barr is the first in a likely series of punitive actions the House is weighing against the administration, which has sought to limit or deny lawmakers access to witnesses and documents.
The worst possible consequences for Barr criminal prosecution, jail time and/or fines aren't likely at all because the Justice Department typically declines to pursue charges for contempt of Congress. Instead, the vote sends perhaps the most powerful message the Congress can muster in its oversight of the executive branch and is a prelude to filing a civil lawsuit for the full report and the underlying evidence that special counsel Robert Mueller collected.
