Would impeachment divide this country moreso than it is already?

I suspect that it might?

But would that be a reason to not impeach if the laws dictated that we must?

Or should we continue to investigate the charges that are in the Mueller Report?

If there was indeed obstruction, then it should be dealt with very harshly, simply for the manner in how it happened. George Washington warned us about foreign entanglements. We should have listened.

If a sitting President can not be indicted while in office, then the President is above the law. No President should ever be above the law. Our system of government is horribly flawed and must be fixed.

A People who would vote for trump.

B People who would not vote for trump.

If Trump has to run as a candidate who has been impeached, but not removed, does anyone believe there are people in group B who change to A?

Or are there people in A who switch to B?

The only people who would still vote for Trump are the people who were always going to vote for him.

Also, for now, the US Senate has enough Republican votes to overrule impeachment proceedings by House of Representative Democrats, who are probably targeting Republican senate-seats, in the 2020 election.

on election day, if they vote to not impeach. It can be a negative as well as it can be a positive.

yesterday he would confirm a SCOTUS nominee if it comes up next year after denying Obama the same right in 2016. What more proof do we need?

Not sure how we can be more divided. I think impeachment would solidify the votes of the independents and swing voters for Dems.

as much as news wasn't 24/7 as today. Its not the impeachment its the hearings, televised day in and day out for 4 months that did in Nixon. The public once educated as to what happened began to sour even more on him. Its important to have them even if the Senate does nothing, it forces their hand. That's the reason you hear a do over...its not its only the next step. They are scared to have those people come forward an allocute what they did. Their own words, not typed words, not some media wonks interpretation. John Dean said it best, "We have a cancer within, close to the presidency, that's growing".

Certainly, it would encourage Republicans to turn out in the 2020 elections. It's unclear how it would affect Democratic turnout. And turnout is going to be everything, frankly.

I'm still of two minds on this, and don't really have enough information to decide which I think is the best course.
