The teary eyed patriots that only talk about a couple parts of the constitution; the second amendment, or their whiny-ass desire for freedom of religion (as long as its theirs), what they want is some fantasy version of the US. They really hate the three co-equal branches of government. They desire is a powerful charismatic leader to believe in. Im the first to say the US is screwed up in many ways but Id rather put my faith in our democracy as laid out in the constitution than one person. Obviously not the present person, but not even one who I agreed with.
The Trump lovers of course have no sense of history beyond some twisted idea that America is the center of the universe. Democracy is a pretty new idea in the big picture; The constitution was a brilliant work of art. I hope a loud minority doesnt drag us backward 100s of years.

Weird.

(17,003 posts)Its the only emotion they have, hate. They hate themselves and their pathetic little lives. They hate anyone who seems to have it better than they do. They hate those less fortunate because some one might help them.

They'd care about the health and well being of Americans over propaganda bullshit nonsense. They'd care about not wanting their home and surrounding environment not getting destroyed in a natural disaster. But they don't. They only care about bullshit.

(10,533 posts)Due to the Electoral College and the rule that each state gets two Senators regardless of its population, and the powers afforded to the Senate as a legislative and confirming body, our flawed Constitution has enabled a regressive minority in mostly white, largely rural states to install presidents, confirm judges and stymie legislation against the will of the majority. This will only get worse and worse as the population continues to concentrate in a few states.
Democracy is not laid out in the Constitution. It doesn't even guarantee us the right to vote! In fact, certain aspects of the Constitution are barriers to democratic governance and have enabled a radical conservative minority to rule over the rest of us. We need to reckon with that fact. In many ways, conservatives understand this better than we do and have been exploiting the flaws and gaps in the Constitution to accumulate more power for themselves. We need to let go of some of the mythology about the "perfection" of the Constitution and start looking at it with a critical eye.
The Constitution is not a brilliant work of art; it is a governing document, and it should serve the people, not the other way around. It is a 240-year-old document and it has lasted much longer than the Framers ever intended. Changes are long overdue and are necessary for the Union to survive.

Most of the people I am around haven't really thought this whole thing out at all. They like their houses and cars and boats and motorcycles and 3 wheelers. They mostly work for GM and FORD. Or some other kind of manly work. They like living in safe neighborhoods close to good schools. They like having police and firemen. They like going to Walmart.
They just haven't thought this through at all. They like their lifestyle and really don't want to go back in time.
If you asked them want they really want their life to be like in the future they probably would have no answer.
Most of the people around here just didn't like the Clinton's so they voted for Trump because they are basically racists and they hated Obama. These are not the deplorables that I am talking about. These are just plain blue collar guys. They struggled just to get through high school.
Just didn't think that one through. But I don't think they really think about much of anything. They just take everything for granted.
