Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal wants a Trump impeachment inquiry -- now!
President Donald Trump has "lied, committed crimes and should not be in the White House," U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., who sits on the House Judiciary Committee, told a town hall at the University of Washington on Wednesday night.
"I have called for us to start an impeachment inquiry," said Jayapal. "I have not done that lightly. It is impossible to read that (Mueller) report and not feel we should have an inquiry."
The 235 House Democrats are split on whether to begin examining whether the 45th president should be removed from office. A majority of Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee say yes. Jayapal pegged inquiry supporters at about 50 in the caucus.
Jayapal has read and marked up her copy of the Mueller report, its examination of Russian "severe attacks" in the 2016 presidential election -- to Trump's benefit -- and the evidence of cover-up and obstruction of Mueller's investigation.
"It was like a novel," she said. "You can't make that stuff up."
